FREQUENTLY ASKED POLICE TRAINING QUESTIONS

with changes, and updates in ASP use.

Q: If I have already been certified to carry OC-Spray can I take just a re-certification course, or is it necessary to be
sprayed again?
A: Once you have been certified and sprayed, you do not have to be sprayed again and may take the re-certification
course.

Q: I carry an ASP Baton and want to be certified in the Monadnock Expandable Baton (MEB).  Does this require that
I buy a new baton?
A: LAS has training and certification available for both batons, because the ASP and MEB are two totally different
devices you must purchase both for training, certification, and field use.

A: You certification is good for two years, however it is recommended you re certify each year to stay current with
changing techniques, and protocols.

Q: Our department states some training we do not need to re certify as often as your recommendations, is this
correct?
A: Our certifications dates are set by national standards, and the most current information available.  Individual
departments may have different requirements for their officers from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.  As with all training,
techniques, and practices they are updated regularly and change from year to year, when standards change and
with the outcomes of litigation.  Our certification periods are based on the most current information.  It is best to make
your decision following your department guidelines coupled with certification and re certification guidelines to ensure
you
reduce your liability to yourself and the Department, increase safety, and decrease injuries to officers and
subjects.
